Site News #003

Halloween 2010

Greetings! Long time no see. I apologies for not updating this in almost two months. I had a lot of issues with Google awhile back. The most common one was them screwing me out of the money they owed me by claiming that my site didn't have as many views as it did. They tried saying I was using a bot to generate clicks for the ads.  This was not the case. I just happen to already know many people who would read my blog. I spend a lot of time online chatting with many people of all ages. Most of them were kind enough to click the ads when they checked out my blogs. However, Google wouldn't listen to me and therefor never paid me. I lost my motivation to do reviews. I recently started finishing the Fall 2010 anime shows and decided to start doing reviews again. However, I don't think I'll be using this site. I'm still upset at Google and will try to find a better system for doing the reviews. I hope you all understand that and will continue supporting me even when I change sites. Thank You.

Forever an Otaku,
 Oralom

Update! 12/24/2010
I got a new site, but I don't have a domain name. I'm currently using a free subdomain. You can find my reviews here: http://oralom.weebly.com/index.html

Legend of the Tsunami Warrior - Movie Review

Legend of the Tsunami Warrior
Saha Mongkul Film Production©

Summary
As sea pirates threaten to invade their kingdoms, three queens of Langkasuka must band together to defend their lands and peoples.

Rating: R
Genre: Fighting, Pirates, Drama, Romance
Year: 2008

Storyline
This movie had a pretty interesting storyline. It seemed like it was based off of some sort of Mythology story. It was easy to follow and not super complicated. The ending was a bit different then what I expected, but it made more sense then what I thought was going to happen.

Graphics
There's so pretty neat effects in this movie. Riding around on whales and sting rays just make the movie cool. Not to mention, you gotta love it when people power up. No matter what the reason is, it just looks cool.

Wrap Up
After watching the movie, I came to the conclusion that this was a movie about an Asain Aquaman. The only difference being he's actually useful and knew how to fight outside of the water.

Triple Movie Review

Kung Fu Chefs
My Way Film Company Limited ©

Summary
Ousted chef Wong Bing-Yi is determined to help Shen Qing at her restaurant "Four Seas". He trains a young chef, Lung Kin-Yat to compete against Chef Tin, the head chef at "Imperial Palace", for the title of "Top Chef".

Year: 2009
Genre: Comedy, Fighting, Cooking
Rating: N/A

Wrap Up
This movie was pretty interesting. It teaches you a lot about cooking. The fighting in it, is mostly for entertainment purposes. As in, they didn't want the viewer to get bored while they did a movie about cooking, so they threw in random fighting scenes. The storyline is actually pretty decent. I was surprised. Originally thinking that this movie was going to be a B-Movie, it actually ended up being decent. The only complaint I have is that the subs go wicked fast.

Summary
It's a heroic tale of three blood brothers and their struggle in the midst of war and political upheaval. It is based on "The Assassination of Ma," a Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) story about the killing of general Ma Xinyi. The story was filmed by Zhang Che in 1973 as The Blood Brothers.

Year: 2007
Genre: War, Fighting, Romance, Drama, Historical
Rating: R

Wrap Up
In all honesty this movie was pretty depressing. Here, I thought it was going to be an epic movie about three brothers who stood up to the empire and change the course of China's civil war. However, I was wrong. It's about three guys who are not blood related, but take the sacrid brother pack. They work for the empirer, but still change the course of history. The ending was sad. The entire movie is sad. I guess that's just how wars are though.

Summary
A battle ensues among groups of government spy teams in an underground facility after their boss is assassinated.

Year: 2010
Genre: Drama, Action
Rating: R

Wrap Up
Weird ass movie. It's pretty much just two groups of people killing each other off. Some people even kill off their own team mates just for the hell of it. Everyone is crazy. It's got a crazy twist at the end of the movie, but you kinda see it coming if you're paying attention to the dialog. If you're bored, watch the movie. It's nothing to brag about though. Pretty dissapointing in all honesty.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World - Movie Review

Universal Pictures©

Summary
Scott Pilgrim must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes in order to win her heart.

Rating: PG-13
Genre: Comedy, Fighting, Romance
Year: 2010

Storyline
For the most part the storyline is pretty interesting. You have a guy who falls in love with a girl, who has evil exes that he must fight off to be with her. It really shows how much he's in love with her if he's willing to put up with all that. I haven't read the graphic novel, so I'm sure how close it is. I do know that they cut some of the side charaters, but I guess they weren't needed for the main point of the storyline.

Graphics
The special effects in this movie were mindblowing. Every single minute of the film there was something going on. I loved watching it just to see all the effects. I wish real life was like that.

Sound & Music
8-Bit music and random video game sound effects? Yeah... This movie has it all. Loved it. However, I don't think having the sound track would give me the same feeling as the movie did. Just because it doesn't have all the visuals, but that's just my opinion.

Wrap Up
Best movie I've seen in a long time. Probably the best retro movie I've seen since TMNT: Turtles Forever. I personally think they did an excellent job with this movie and I put it at the top of my to buy list. I recommened everyone to give this a chance. It might surprise you.

Red Cliff - Movie Review

Beijing Film Studio©China Film Group©Lion Rock Productions©

Summary
The first chapter of a two-part story centered on a battle fought in China's Three Kingdoms period (220-280 A.D.).
Rating: R
Genre: Fighting
Year: 2008
Storyline
It was easy to follow, which is always a good thing. However, sometimes the battles got a bit confusing. At least to my family, they did. I didn't have that much trouble following it. Then again, I have played Dynasty Warriors enough times to understand what was going on without the movie telling me. It's basically covers the start of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and focuses more on the battle at Red Cliff. For those of you who have played the games, it's the one where it's night and you're fighting on a bunch of ships that are stuck together. It's also the level where you can pick up fire arrows.
Graphics
Really nicely done. There's a lot of awesome scenary shots and the battles were insane. The amount of people they had in the armies still blows my mind. There are scenes where it's a flying camera shot down the river, and it shows litterly hundreds of ships stationed along the shore. An incredable movie.
Wrap Up
This movie was a lot better than what I thought it was going to be. I've seen a lot of random movies based off of ancient wars in Asia, and for some reason they're all border line B-Movie quality. However, this one really takes the cake (as you one could say). It was an amazing movie with great acting and camera work. The battles were very entertaining and easy to follow (for the most part). I would love to see another movie as good as this one to explain more about the battles that came after Red Cliff.

The Karate Kid (New) - Movie Review

Columbia Pictures©
Summary
Work causes a single mother to move to China with her young son; in his new home, the boy embraces kung fu, taught to him by a master.
Rating: PG
Genre: Fighting
Year: 2010
Storyline
This was a really tough one to do. I have a pet peeve when it comes to remakes. A lot of them haven't been very well done. The Kirate Kid is a classic and probably should have never been touched, but after watching this, I'm glad it was. They stayed true to the original classic. It was an old story with a new feel to it. The concept was the same. It had some similar scenes, but with a slightly different look to them. I think this was done to show that this wasn't the original, but still inspired by it. The storyline for this film gave the message better then I could have ver imagined. If I was rating this, it would be five stars.
Sound & Music
I watched the behind the scenes and they talked a bit about the music in this movie. I felt the music was really well done. It had classical music, with Asian flutes mixed in. During some of the scenes it had mainstream hip-hop, which I'm pretty sure is only in the movie to give the children something to relate to. It wasn't over done and fit perfectly in the scene they put it in. I was extremely impressed with the music of this movie. They didn't use random music just so they could sell a soundtrack later. They actually used a live ocrastra. Five stars for sure!
Wrap Up
I hate remakes. I hate them even more if they're a remake to a classic movie. However, this movie did an excellent job. As far as I know, this is the first remake of a classic, that people accepted to the point where it'll probably be a classic itself. I enjoyed the movie and glad that I gave it a chance. I recommend it to everyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Public Enemies - Movie Review

Universal Pictures©

Summary
The Feds try to take down notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s.

Rating: R
Genre: Crime
Year: 2009

Storyline
Based on a true story. Really well done in my opinion. Easy to follow. I just wonder just how much of the truth is told. I would have to look into it if I really wanted to find out.

Graphics
Did a good job showing the time period. The movie itself was a bit dark. I had the misfortunate of renting the wide screen edition, which I had to watch on my 12" TV. All these things combined made it a bit hard to see some of the stuff that was going on.

Sound & Music
When they were playing stuff on the radio it did sound like an old radio. The music they played was also from the correct time period. I say they did an excellent job.

Wrap Up
All in all, it wasn't that bad of a movie. I think it was bit over hyped, but it wasn't a bad movie. I found a lot of things in it to be very interesting. Like how the future FBI agents were as bad as the crooks and sometimes worst.

Dream Blog #002

I lived in a big house. I was part of some rich family. My father was a strong ninja warrior who could control multiple elements. I think he specialized in Water and Fire. I had an older brother who was naturally good at everything and was always getting praise from my Father. My Mother was an Asian lady who was kind at heart and quiet. She hardly ever spoke up, but I knew she loved me very much. I got in a fight with my Father and decided to run away and train myself or something. A young maid who's always taking care of me ran away with me too. She had dedicated her life to our family and decided to watch over me the best she could. She wasn't much in a fight, but she knew the basics. She also cooked really well. There was snow on the grown. Quite a bit. I think it was winter time. When I ran away I caste a spell called Flight on the maid and I. It allowed us to run across the top of the snow without leaving any foot prints. I also said goodbye to my Mother who said that she liked the fact that I always had a problem or something like that. I guess she was trying to say that she loved me even though I wasn't perfect like my older brother. My Father knew I left. He was secretly on the roof watching me flee and he had a smile on his face. He knew that I was going to do great things when I got older. I have no clue where my older brother was. I think he was out on a mission or something. I also remember getting down on the ground after casting a cloaking spell to make myself look like a pile of snow. I was spying on two people talking. I don't remember what they were talking about, who they were, or anything else that happen after that.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian - Movie Review

20th Century Fox©

Summary
Security guard Larry Daley infiltrates the Smithsonian Institution in order to rescue Jedediah and Octavius, who have been shipped to the museum by mistake.

Rating:  PG-13
Genre:  Science Fiction, Comedy
Year:  2009

Storyline
It's pretty hard to judge the storyline. It's a family movie and a sequel. It had all the same characters in it as the first movie, which is always a bonus. The beginning part of the movie also made a lot of sense. However, I felt having the Egyptian King randomly have an evil older brother was a bit much. There wasn't really any need to have an actual villain, but I do like how he created an allied forces with other villain like people through time. Even Darth Vader made an appearance. Sadly, he couldn't use the force. The ending to the movie was pretty far fetched, but I guess it was the best they could to show that everything was going to be alright.

Graphics
This movie is really well done graphics wise. Who ever was in charge of the special effects, did an excellent job making everything look like it came to life. The costumes looked legit, and the scenes where they were entering the paintings were excellent. Mixing in the black and white graphics of olden times, really gave it the feel that anything was possible. The movie left me with an impressed amusement as far as graphics are concerned.

Sound & Music
I'm not going to lie, I don't really pay much attention to this while watching the movie. Unless something really stands out I don't even notice the music most of the time. Well, I do, but I don't give it much thought. There are however three singing cupids in this movie. Which of course sing love related songs. Not just classical, but newer rap like songs. I found this entertaining as far as music goes.

Wrap Up
All in all, this movie was pretty entertaining. It was a lot better then I thought it was going to be. I have such bad experiences with sequels that I was really worried that this would be terrible, but it was actually good. I recommend it for those of you who have families that like to get together and watch a movie from time to time.

Casual Romance Club - Game Review

Libido© & QT-Software©

Overview
The gameplay in Casual Romance Club follows a predetermined plot line. The basic event scenarios fall into place, however as the game progresses depending upon who the player talks to and how they respond, the storyline can diverge slightly. The game focuses on the dating among eventually up to twelve girls. The main goal is to make available sexual images the player can view at any time depicting the protagonist having sexual intercourse with or masturbation of one of the girls.

Genre: Visual Novel, Romance, Mature
Year: 1997

Graphics
These graphics are horrible. It's like a high-school student used MS Paint to draw each character. This game has to be an independent game. There's no way that graphics this bad would be from an actual company that employed experienced workers

Sound & Music
The Music isn't bad.  It's not great either. Just normal classical sounding music. However, the game randomly has voices. The voices speak in both Japanese and English, depending on what they're saying. The English parts are terrible. It sounds like someone with down syndrome speaking. Not very sexy at all, which I'm pretty sure is the point of the game.

Storyline
The main character is a pussy. This is got the lamest storyline I've ever encountered in this type of game. He doesn't wanna sleep with any of the girls, because he might hurt someone's feelings. Eventually all the girls talk about their periods and I don't know about you, but I personally don't find that entertaining for a game that's based around banging chicks. The storyline also doesn't change much depending on what you choose. It's got a set course and follows it no matter what you choose to say to the girls.

Gameplay
This is a visual novel, so there isn't a lot of Gameplay. You pretty much just read what they say and once in awhile you get a couple of choices. Usually, depending on what you choose will change the storyline and/or ending, but in this case it doesn't change anything. You can be a total ass and the storyline will still continue down the set path. Then again, there isn't options to allow you to be a total ass anyway. Keep in mind that the main character you play as is a pussy and always has to be nice to everyone no matter what.

Pretear - Anime Review

Hal Film Maker©Kadokawa Shoten©Rondo Robe©

Plot Summary
Himeno Awayuki was a normal sixteen-year old girl until her father married a woman who happens to be rich. Since then, she has been perceived as an outcast by both her new stepsisters and her classmates. Later Himeno finds out from seven men called the Leafe Knights that she is something called Pretear, a girl who has the power to merge with and control the nature of the elemental-oriented powers from the Leafe Knights and stop an evil being called the Princess of Disaster.

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, Magical
Episodes: 13
Year: 2001

Episode 1
This was a bit different then what I was expecting. I really do feel for the girl. Her life reminds me a lot of Cinderalla. I thought she would go on a journey to find the Leafe Knights, but they were already all gathered and ran into her in the first episode. Takes a lot of the adventure away from the show. I would like to point out that the knights changed their clothes to fight. What is with the Japanese and having that in their shows? At least it wasn't indivisual transformation scenes. I would also like to mention that for a group of knights dedicated in protecting Leafe of the entire planet, they suck at fighting.

Episode 2
In this episode, Himeno Awayuki decided to practice using the special moves she can do while fused with one of the Leafe Knights. However, she only practices with one of them and of course it's the one she uses in the fight with Demon Larva. I also like to inform everyone that it's a one hit kill to all the Demon Larvas. Doing that makes the show less exciting then what it could be.

Episode 3
This episode is pretty much the same as the others. I'm guessing since there is only three episodes, there's enough time for her to fuse with each Leafe Knight twice, defeating a different larva each time. Of course, she'll use their special move to do a one hit kill each time. If this wasn't a half season anime, I wouldn't suggest it. However, I might as well finish it since it's not very long. Who knows? It might have a decent ending.

Thoughts On Completion
For the most part, Pretear, has a pretty interesting storyline. I enjoy the fact that there were different Knights that represent each Element and the fact she could fuse with any of them at any given time. However, I was disapointed in the fact that they didn't go into much detail with it. No upgrades to their special moves and no duel fusions. The storyline focused a lot on the feelings of each of the characters and the plot twists were decent for a short anime. They could have did a bit more with it, but I guess they didn't have enough time. The ending started off good, but took a horrible turn when they had the main  villain cry. Ruined the entire thing for me. It's an anime targeting 14 - 16 year old girls, so it's understandable that being love would save the world, but it was so over done that even the root of all evil did it. This was not for me, nor would I recommend it for any straight males older then 16. However, it's short enough to watch if you have nothing else to do, or if you're interested in trying out a new type of anime. To be fair it wasn't THAT bad and did keep me entertained through the entire series.

Togainu No Chi - Review Update

A-1 Pictures Inc.©
Overview
Akira, the young champion of a street fighting tournament caleld BI@ster, is suddenly arrested for a crime he didn't commit. He makes a deal with a mysterious woman to get out of prison on one condition: to defeat the strongest man, the Il-Re, in a deadly game called Igura, which is taking place under the rule of a drug ring in the abandoned remains of Tokyo. This one sounds really interesting. If done correctly, I can see this becoming an awesome Shōnen type show.  A bit more mature then the others, but still has cool fight scenes and power-ups.

Episode 1
The artwork is really nicely done. This episode did a fairly decent job setting up the plot of the entire show. Also showed how bored the main character is with fighting weaklings and yet still showed that he wasn't of violent nature despite him being so good at beating the crap out of people. If you like blood there was a lot at the end of this episode.

Episode 2
This episode is mostly about the introduction of a few other possibly main characters. Shows a bit more of the area and explains just a tiny bit about the dangerous game. However, it didn't go into too much detail, and I'm guessing that's going to take a few episodes. So far this anime is pretty decent.

Episode 3
Introduction of yet another character and a possible picture of the main villain. That pretty much sums up this entire episode.

Wrap Up
The storyline is well laid out. Gives enough info, so the watcher knows what's going on, while leaving enough unanswered questions to keep you watching. The animation is well done. I recommend it. It's pretty interesting even though it has less action then I thought it would. However, the story is just begining and there's a lot of room for some awesome fights.

Soredemo Machi Wa Mawatteiru - Review Update

Shaft©
Overview
First I wanna point out that I originally mispelled this Anime in my Fall 2010 prediction review.  I had accidently spelt it, Soredemo Machi wa Maqatteriru. Anyway, the story centers around Seaside, a slightly odd maid tea shop in an otherwise ordinary shopping district of a mundane neighborhood in Tokyo. (Despite the addition of maids, Seaside is a traditional maid tea shop, instead of one of the maid cafes made popular elsewhere.) Hotori Arashiyama works at Seaside and daydreams about being a high schol gir detective. Harriet The Spy in Anime form? Sounds about right to me. I'll be looking forward to seeing what end up doing with this show. It has a couple of possibilities. The only fear I have, is that it turns out to be a children's show. With really lame detective parts. Like finding a lost cat or something.

Episode 1
So far there hasn't been a single decitive related thing. It's all about the small maid cafe. The characters in this show are ugly, but I'm thankful for the change in art style. I was getting bored with the same character designs.

Episode 2
Hotori is hopless. She's so childish and stupid. I don't see how she'll ever be a great detective. At least they finally showed something that was dectective related. Which is Hotori enjoyment when it comes to reading mysteries and watching detective shows.

Episode 3
At least the episodes are packed with random useless information.

Wrap Up
The artwork reminds me of Welcome to the NHK. The story itself is lacking. I got bored watching this. I don't think I would recommend it nor will I continue it. I almost fell asleep. They try to hard to be funny and there isn't really an actual storyline. I just had a hard time keeping interested in the show.

My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute! - Review Update

AIC©
Overview
Also known as, Ore No Imouto Ga Konna Ni Kawaii Wake Ga Nai (Long title, I know). I guess this can also be called, Oreimo for short. Kousaka Kyousuke is an average high school studen who doesn't get along well with his younger sister, the cute and popular Kirino. Then one day he makes a startling discovery: Kirino's secretly an Otaku. Okay. I'll admit. I thought this was just another incest Anime. We really don't need any more of those, but after talking to someone about it, it might actually be more then that. I added Romance to the genre, because that's what it sounds like it's going to be. However, there hasn't actually been anything announced that states it's a Romance. Might actually be an Otaku anime.

Episode 1
Pretty interesting concept. The younger sister has a younger sister fetish. Who would have guessed it? I'm pretty sure the copy of the episode I was watching cut off before the actual end though, so I may have missed something. However, it seems like the entire episode is about the brother finding out about his younger sister's fetish/hobby and deciding to help her hide it from everyone. She also seems to be demanding life counseling. Keep in mind that everyone in town thinks she's perfect and he's a loser. On to the next episode!

Episode 2
This episode covers Kousaka trying to help Kirino find Otaku friends without having her give up her school ones or for them to find out. It's quite an interesting episode. I found the argument about which anime genre was better to be most interesting. On another note, what's up with all these Fall anime shows having every female character blushing in every scene. It's not like they're even blushing, but it's drawn that way. I guess it does kinda make them look cuter, but it's way over done. This has to be the fourth or fifth show I've seen so far that did their art style this way.

Episode 3
This episode is so full of win. There's nothing better then an older brother challenging his overly stubborn father to protect his younger sister. I was cheering for him the entire time. This episode has me hooked on this show.

Wrap Up
Alright, the name of the anime is pretty werid. I was sure it was going to be the incest romance type, but I was completely wrong. It's more of a Slice-of-Life anime with an Otaku theme. For me, it took until the thrid episode to get me hooked. By the end of that episode you'll be rooting for the main character and feel so proud that he had the guts to stick up for his bitchy sister. I recommend this and know that I'll be watching more of this as soon as the episodes come out.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes - Review Update

J.C.Staff©
Overview
The story takes place in an imaginary world in "the Age of Dectectives", where private dectives and phantom thieves overwhelm the cities. It's about four girls who aim to be great detectives. This sounds like One Piece, but with Detectives instead of Pirates. Might be either really good or really bad. Way to early to judge this one right now.

Episode 1
So the show is about four girls who get struck by lightning and loose their special powers that remind me of devil fruit abilities in One Piece. They live in a world where everyone is either a dective or a thief. Well, maybe not everyone, but most people.

Episode 2
These girls are spoiled brats. Now that they're not spoiled, because they lost their powers all they do is fight over stupid stuff. I don't know if I can keep watching this show. It's really stupid. I would like to point out that for a children's show the credits are really pervy.

Episode 3
In this episode they play twister to get their powers back. Did it work or was it a fluke? Only real way is to keep watching the show.

Wrap Up
This show is a good show for 10 year old girls. However the spoiled brats and concent fighting over stupid shit makes me never want to watch another episode of this show again. I don't recommend it to anyone, unless you're like a young tween girl.
